Helen Marie Nelson, 80 of Howland Township, died Wednesday afternoon, February 15, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born April 12, 1931 in Warren, the daughter of the late John Arthur and Helmi Sophia Hakkarainen Tuori. She was a lifetime Trumbull county resident. Helen was a 1949 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. She was a homemaker all of her married life and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Helen was of the Lutheran faith, was an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. Her husband, William C. "Bill" Nelson, whom she married May 14, 1950, preceded her in death May 9, 2009. Helen is survived by two daughters, Pamela (Ernie) Gerbetz of Howland and Carolle (Bruce) Bauer of Cincinnati; one son, William C. (Ildiko) Nelson of Budapest, Hungary; four grandchildren, Daniel, Kara, Destiny and Sterling and three sisters, Dorothy DeJacimo of Howland, Aileen Doane of Ft. Myers, Fla. and Betty (Dan) Wertenberg of Columbia, SC. A private memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Lane Family Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren. Per Helen's wishes, cremation was held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Services in Howland, 4100 North River Road, Warren 44484 or to Ohio's Choice Hospice, 1520 East Market St., Warren 44483.
