Helen O. Phillips, 87, of Fowler, went home to be with the Lord, early Saturday morning on August 13, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Helen was born on February 2, 1929 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Frank and Velma V. Virag. She was a 1949 graduate of Fowler High School, and a lifelong resident of Cortland. She was a proud member of St. Roberts Church, in Cortland. Helen retired from Packard Electric, where she worked on the assembly line. In her free time she enjoyed farm work, gardening, and canning, baking and cooking, and hosting family dinners held every Sunday. She quilted for Blankets of Love, and St. Roberts Women's Quilting. She leaves behind seven children; Ralph (Deb) Phillips Jr., Frank "Peewee"(Chris) Phillips, both of Mecca, Floyd "Ted" Phillips, of Fowler, Helen (Roger) Leigh, of Greene Township, Georgia Phillips, of Cortland, Wilma Phillips, of Mecca and Louis (Becky) Phillips, of Williamsfield, sixteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a sister Margaret Chrobak, and her care giver Christine. Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Phillips Sr., whom she married on November 15, 1951; and a brother Eugene Virag. Family and friends may call Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 6p.m. to 8p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St. Cortland. A mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Roberts Church. Interment will take place at Dugan cemetery.
