Helena Gostovich

April 19, 1925 — December 14, 2020

Warren - Helena Gostovich, 95, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, December 14, 2020.
Helena was born on April 19, 1925 to the late Serafin and Sarah Nieves and grew up in Dehue, Logan County, West Virginia with her five siblings. She married her childhood friend, next-door neighbor, and love of over 50 years, George Gostovich. They lived in Warren, Ohio, where they raised their only daughter, Carol (Gostovich) Riebock.
During Helena's almost 70 years in Warren, she was heavily involved in Bolindale Christian Church, singing and sharing her heart every Sunday, and inspiring others with her laughter, friendship, and strength. She was always there for everyone with open arms 24/7 and she practiced what she preached. She would make crocheted hats and give them to the neighborhood children and help with the Second Harvest Food Bank. She was known for her scrumptious banana pudding that she would take to every church dinner and her cherry cheesecake that she would share with guests that came to her home. She loved the beagles that she and her husband raised, and she loved working and creating advertising for the radio station WHHH in Warren, OH.
She would go huckleberry picking with her siblings in West Virginia and bring them home to make pies and she taught her brother Serafin how to milk a cow. She was a beloved friend and mentor to many. She will be greatly missed.
Her grandchildren fondly remember “Grandma Gus” going on road trips with them, baking apple crisp, telling stories of her days working at the radio station, and catching fish with her bare hands in Wisconsin.
She is survived by her brothers Serafin J Nieves and Antonio (Nancy) Nieves; her sister-in-law Carole (nee Macpherson) Gostovich; her three grandchildren, Corbett (Joshua) Burick, Joshua (Kristin) Riebock, and Quinn (Nelson) Cruz, and six great-grandchildren; her nieces and nephews, David (Roberta) Gostovich, Nianna E. Gustovich, Tracey (Lewis) Agosta, Steven (Theresa) Gostovich, Tara Gostovich, D.M.D. (Dominic Paparo), Dolores (Markovich) Pedrick, and George (Madeline) Markovich.
Besides for her parents, Helena is preceded in death by her husband, George; her daughter, Carol; her siblings Manuel Nieves, Sarita Marie (Nieves) Pero, Amparo Nieves; her sisters-in-law, Micha Nieves, Anna Jean (Messer) Gustovich, Mary (Gostovich) Vaz, Sophie (Gostovich) Markovich, and Verda Gostovich; her brothers-in-law, Michael Gostovich, Vlade M. Gostovich, Frank Pedrick; her nephew Larry Daniel Gostovich; and her nieces Encarnacion Vaz, Jimmy Markovich, and “Babe” (Markovich) Duff.
