Henry J. Mermer, age 87 of Howland Township, died Saturday morning, October 23, 2010 at his home. He was born August 2, 1923 in Warren, the son of the late Joseph and Sophie Kunka Mermer. Henry was a lifetime Warren area resident and attended Warren G. Harding High School. He served as a sergeant in the Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He retired in 1981 from management in the conditioning department of Copperweld Steel, after 41 years of service. Henry enjoyed gardening, the outdoors and nature and loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Resurrection Romanian Orthodix Church. Henry is survived by his wife, Marian Moyer Mermer, whom he married August 19, 1956; one daughter, Dorian L. Mermer of Howland and ten nieces and nephews, Maj. General Simeon Trombitas stationed with the Army in San Antonio, TX; John Trombitas of St. Petersburg, Fla.; Dan Mermer of Kent; Kathy Mermer of Warren; Steve Mermer of Vernon; Dolly Mermer of Akron; Richard and Dennis Molnar both of Canfield; David Tschiegg of Rockville, Md. and Randall Tschiegg of San Diego. Three brothers, Walter, Anthony and John Mermer; three sisters, Annie Mermer, Josephine Molnar and Wanda Tschiegg and one nephew, Buddy Mermer all have preceded him in death. Private services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Warren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Resurrection Romanian Orthodox Church in Warren.
