Henry R. Johnson

Henry R. Johnson, 82, of Fowler for 50 years passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Cortland Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for 4 years. He was born on January 30, 1927 in McDonald, Ohio, the son of Chester and Elsie (Rishel) Johnson. Henry loved spending time with his family and helping anyone who needed an extra set of hands. He worked at various places and retired from RMI Titanium in Niles in 1989 working there for 33 years. He was a Fowler Volunteer Fireman, worked the Fowler fair, Fowler Strawberry Festival, and set up the speaker system for the Fowler Memorial Day service for many years. Also in past years he had go-cart and motorcycle races at his Fowler residence. Henry and his family ran two Johnson's Corn Dog Concessions Trailers for 24 years. The trailers can still be found at local fairs. Henry was a kind and loving man and he will be sadly missed by his family, friends, Cortland Healthcare Center Staff and all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife Betty, whom he married November 1, 1947 in Niles; sons Tim (Pat) Johnson, Denny (Michelle) Johnson both of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Kevin (Cindy) Johnson of Fowler; daughters, Darlene Mays of Martinez, GA, Shirley Secrist of Cortland, and Daughter in law Nancy Johnson of Cortland; 11 grandchildren Tracey, Mike, Bill, Greta, Linda, Fawne, Helana, Amanda, Kayla, Christopher, and Ricky; and 17 great grandchildren. His son; Staff Sgt. Terry L. Johnson preceded him in death, as well as Henry's parents, 2 brothers, and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10am Saturday June 6, 2009 at Shafer Winans Funeral Chapel, 164 North High Street Cortland, Ohio 44410. The family will be receiving friends on Friday June 5, 2009 at the funeral home from 1-3pm and 6-9pm. Henry will be laid to rest at Pineview Memorial Park in Warren. In lieu of flowers material contributions may be made to Cortland Healthcare Center, 369 North High Street, Cortland, Ohio 44410 in Henry's memory.
