There are no services or calling hours for Herbert M. McCartney, 88, who died Thursday morning at his residence. He was born January 29, 1921 in Hysham, Montana, a son of Forrest and Lillian McCartney. He worked as a mason for Construction Workers Local 8 for many years until his retirement. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marine. He was a member of the Lake Milton Presbyterian Church and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He married the former Adair L. Kemble in 1940, and she preceded him in death on May 14, 2002. He is survived by four children; Jacqueline (Donald) Lowery of Muldrow, Oklahoma; Sharon (Robert) Bailey of Deerfield; Herbert, Jr. (Connie) McCartney of Elk River, Idaho; and John (Lisa) McCartney of Deerfield. He also leaves nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Forrest McCartney; and two sisters; Ethel Beard and Norma Greasel. The family has entrusted arrangements to the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.
