Herman J. Alflen, 82, of Niles passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family Tuesday Oct.19, 2010 following a short illness. He was born Sept.2, 1928 in Cleveland, OH the son of the late Herman J. and Muzuatte (Taylor) Alflen. He was raised in Cleveland and graduated from Cleveland East Tech High School and attended John Carroll University. He is a veteran of the US Army. Herman came to the Warren area in 1977 from Brunswick. He was employed by Alcan Aluminum in Warren as traffic manager retiring in 1985. After retirement, he was employed as a traffic manager for Bach, Jaro Transportation Services, and Rush Transportation. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Browns, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife JoAnn (Mandley)Alflen whom he married Oct.1, 1949, a daughter Nancy (Randall J.) Mishler of Big Prairie, OH and 3 sons- Robert (Heidi) of Niles, Edward (Star) of Windham, and Dale (Donna) of Howland. He also leaves 8 grandchildren; Matthew, Cody, Colleen, Cara, Cylie, Amanda, Jenna, and Amber, a brother Walter (Aggie) of Cleveland, and 3 sisters Barbra (James) Nugent of North Royalton, OH, Christine Dennis of Sheffield Lake, OH, and Ethel Scalzetti of Pompano Beach, FL. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday Oct. 23, 2010 at Roberts-Clark Chapel where friends will be received from 5-7 PM Friday and for one-half prior to the service. Deacon Bob Simmerly will officiate. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park where military honors will be observed by the Trumbull County Honor Guard.
