Howard D Scheidegger

Howard D Scheidegger, 94, of Fowler, passed away peacefully, Thursday, September 13, 2012 at Concord Care of Cortland. He was born December 4, 1917, in Fowler, the son of Harlan and Alerta Scheidegger. Howard was a lifelong resident. He served our country during World War II, as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps, in the battles of Okinawa, Ryuku Islands, and the occupation of China. Upon returning to Fowler after the war, he married his loving wife Doris Cole, on August 15, 1948, and they took over the family farm. After retiring from a life of farming, Howard drove school buses for 20 years for the Fowler and Vienna school district. Even after retiring from farming, he still had a love for gardening and his tractors. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Doris and several nieces and nephews. Howard is preceded in death by his sister Helen James and his parents. Funeral Services will be Monday, September 17, 2012 at 11:00AM at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, in Cortland. Friends will be received 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Rev. Joel Dickson will officiate. Interment will be at Dugan Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fowler Fire Department. The family would like to thank the staff of Concord Care of Cortland and to all of Howard's caregivers.
