Howard H. Harig

Memorial services will be held at 11am Saturday at the Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd., Youngstown, for Howard H. Harig, 98, who went home to be with the Lord late Sunday morning at Briarfield of Ashley Circle Nursing Home in Austintown. He was born August 9, 1910 in Massillon, a son of John and Maude (Fulton) Harig, and he resided in this area all of his life. He was a 1928 graduate of South High School. He held various jobs in his lifetime; he was a brick layer in the open hearth at Republic Steel; he worked for the Jenkins Sign Co. in Youngstown; he was an assistant manager for the Isaly Dairy Co; he worked for many years as an assistant manager for Stambaugh Thompson Hardware Store; and most recently he worked for Retzler’s True Value Hardware in Wooster. He was a longtime member of Faith Community Church. He married the former Dorothy Gebhardt on February 1, 1935 and she preceded him in death on January 27, 1962. He was also married to the former Frieda Lynch, who preceded him in December 1986, and the former Helena Sekinger, who preceded him in February 2000. He is survived by two children; Carolyn McCorkle of North Jackson; and Donald (Nancy) Harig of Stoneboro, PA. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren; Brenda (Mark) Spencer of Brevort, MI; Glenn McCorkle of North Jackson; Ruth (Martin) Ellis and their daughter Sarah of North Jackson, with whom he made his home for the past five years; Charles McCorkle of Warren; Judy McCorkle of North Jackson; Mary (Scott) Farber of Youngwood, PA; Alan (Joanne) Harig of Cannonsburg, PA; David (Mary) Harig of Plain City; Philip Harig of Stoneboro; Paul (Connie) Harig of Sandy Lake, PA; and numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Oscar; and three sisters; Helen Bixler, Catherine Harig, and Lois Harig. Memorial contributions may be made in Howard’s memory to Faith Community Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel.
