Inez Warner Shallenberger, 75, departed this earth on November 20, 2013. Inez recently moved to an assisted living facility and passed away there with her two sons by her side. She endured a year and a half long battle with cancer and is finally at peace. Inez was born on July 29, 1938 in Bloomfield, the daughter of the late V. Lee and V. Carleita Martin Warner. She married Kenneth Shallenberger in 1960 and they enjoyed 34 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 1994. Inez moved from Ohio to Wirtz, Virginia in 2001 to be closer to her two sons and grandchildren. Inez is survived by her sons, Scott Shallenberger and his wife, Debbie, of Wirtz, Virginia, and Todd Shallenberger and his wife, Donna, of Charlottesville, Virginia and one sister, Nancy (Jim) Finley, of Cortland. Inez had many passions over the years but her main passion was her grandchildren. Inez was a loving grandmother and she will be greatly missed by all of her grandchildren. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, granddaughter, Jennifer (Shallenberger) Hughes and her husband Nate, Jeremy Shallenberger, Jessica Shallenberger and Emory Gray Shallenberger. She also has a great grandson, Bradoc Hughes, who brought her much joy over the last year. Inez was preceded in death by two of her sisters; Eleanor Nugent and Louise Hadley. Inez attended Baldwin Wallace College, and after graduation, she pursued a career in education. She enjoyed her years as a teacher and spent the majority of her career at Lakeview High School, where she taught English, journalism, theater and coached girls varsity softball. One of Inez's greatest passions was baseball. She proudly served as president of the Hot Stove Little League in Champion, and volunteered as her son's little league manager. She knew the sport inside and out, and chagrined many opposing male coaches and umpires with her knowledge. She rarely missed a game on television, even in her later years of life, and always followed her team, the Cleveland Indians. Inez had quite a creative flair and enjoyed painting and sculpting. She developed an interest in designing and professionally crafting the most beautiful mohair teddy bears. She sold her bears for many years, but she preferred making them for her grandchildren. The family will greet friends on Saturday, December 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. The family wishes to thank Gentle Shepherd Hospice who provided loving, kind and professional care over the last months of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Rd, NW, Roanoke, VA 24019.
