Ivor D. “Squirt” Wakeford, 78, of Canfield, passed away Saturday morning at his home with his family by his side. Ivor was born September 13, 1925, the son of George and Ethel Wakeford in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended Chaney High School and enlisted in the Navy at age 17 where he was a Veteran of WWII. Ivor was an Ironworker for 42 years and a member of Local #207, retiring from Diamond Steel in 1987. Through the years, he was involved with Austintown Little League, Westside Colts, and was a member of the Saxon Club. Enjoying the game of golf, he was a member of the Canfield Country Club for 30 years. In his retirement he played pinochle and bridge and was a member of the Canfield Duplicate Bridge Club. Ivor leaves his wife of 49 years, Maxine (Mayo) Wakeford, whom he married September 11, 1954 his three sons: David (June) Wakeford of Lake Milton, Gary (Wendie) Wakeford of Canfield, and James Wakeford of Lordstown, a daughter Lauren (Joseph) Charles of Akron, and his five grandchildren who called him “PAPA”, David, Brittany, and James Charles, Joshua Ivor, and Kristen Wakeford. He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Cindy Wakeford in 1956, and his brothers John and Kenneth. Calling hours will be from 4-7 PM on Sunday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1:00 PM at the funeral home with burial in Calvary Cemetery immediately following.
