Austintown- Funeral services will be 11 am Thursday at Smith Corners United Methodist Church for Jack Reel, who died Sunday evening in Austinwoods. Jack was born July 4, 1920 in Austintown the son of John and Edith (Rowe) Reel and was a life long area resident. Jack was employed by, Ohio Department of Transportation as a surveyor for 35 years retiring in 1976; he was also employed for Howells & Baird Consultants in Salem for 10 years, and was a life long farmer. He was a member of the church where he had served as Church Trustee, Financial Secretary, Choir member and a Sunday school teacher. He was also a long time member of the Mahoning County Farm Bureau, County Grange Deputy for 23 years, former member of Austintown Zoning Board, 4H leader of Austintown Farmers for 35 years, 55 year member of Dublin Grange, 1939 graduate of Fitch High School and served in the U.S.Army during WWII as a First Lieutenant. The Reel family was honored as the Rural Family of the year in 1968 by the Canfield Fair Board. Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vada (May) whom he married January 23, 1942, sons; Kenneth (Mary Ann), Gary (Sandie), Wayne (Judi) all of Austintown, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ralph. Family and friends may call from 5-8 pm Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and from 10-11 am Thursday at the church. The family requests material contributions take the form of donations to the Smith Corners United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
