A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30 am Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, preceded by closing prayers at 9:45 am at Lane Family Funeral Homes Mineral Ridge Chapel for James A. Smith who passed away suddenly Thursday afternoon at his home. He was 65. Jim was born August 20, 1947 in Youngstown a son of the late Albert and Josephine (Vernarsky) Smith. Jim retired as a field superintendent in 2009 after 40 years of service with Aven Fire Systems. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Sprinkler Fitters Local 669. He enjoyed traveling, family vacations, and following all Cleveland sports teams. Most of all spending time with his grandsons. Jim will be sadly missed by his wife, the former LuAnn Baker, whom he married August 27, 1976; his children: James (Amy) Smith of Dayton, Tiffany (Kyle) Dyment of Elgin, SC, Crystal (Justin) Aleshire of Mineral Ridge and Heidi Smith of Mineral Ridge; two sisters: Alberta (Albert) McAllister of Youngstown, and Mary Frances (John) Grover of Youngstown; and three grandsons: James Smith III, Ryan Aleshire and Noah Aleshire. He was preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 2 pm until 5 pm Sunday at Lane Family Funeral Homes Mineral Ridge Chapel.
