Funeral services will be held at 11am Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Youngstown for James C. Grantz, 82, who died early Monday morning at his residence. He was born January 7, 1927 in Girard, a son of Grover L. and Elizabeth (Coudriet) Grantz, and he resided in this area all of his life. He worked as a plumber for Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 87 for 41 years before his retirement in 1989. He was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church and he was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II from 1944-1946. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he was a member of the NRA and the Lowellville Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by his wife, the former Norma Jean Davis, whom he married September 11, 1945; five children; James G. (Teri) Grantz of New Springfield; Diane A. (Patrick) Armstrong of Canfield; Brenda J. Grim of North Jackson; Daniel R. Grantz of Austintown; and Ronald G. (David) Grantz of Sharpsville, Pa.; a brother Lee Grantz of Lumberton, Tex.; a sister-in-law Joanna Hemphill of Youngstown; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson John David Grantz; two brothers; G. Edward and Robert Grantz; and three sisters; Ida Johnston; Loretta Mantz; and Elizabeth Morris. Friends may call from 4-8pm Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and from 10-11am Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley.
