James "Jim" Capellas, 82, of Warren, died 12:30 PM Monday May 5, 2008 at his son's residence in Cortland following a lengthy illness. He was born July 25, 1925 in Syras, Greece the son of Zacharias and Judith (Stefanou) Capellas. A Warren area resident for 41 years coming from Greece, Jim was surgery unit manager at Warren General Hospital retiring after 25 years of service. He fought in the Greek civil war following WW 2 and still was an avid follower of international politics. Jim formerly was the host and commentator for "The Hellenic Hour" local radio show. He became identified with the phrase "kai-mi-heirotera" which he used often on his broadcasts. He was preceded in death by his wife Joan (Peripanou) Capellas Nov.18, 1994. Survivors include 2 sons Z. George (Stavroula) Capellas of Warren, Spiro (Linda) Capellas of Cortland, brother George Capellas of Florida, 5 grandchildren; Jimmy, Carl (Maureen), Mary, Joey, Hailey, and numerous nieces and nephews in Athens, Greece. He was preceded in death by a brother Francis and a sister Mary. A private family service was held at the residence on Monday. Mr. Capellas will be cremated and the family requests material contributions be made to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market St. Youngstown, OH 44512-2198.
