James E Double

June 3, 1947 — March 14, 2015

James E. Double, 67, of Cortland, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 1:10 pm at St. Joseph Cancer Center, surrounded by his family and friends. Jim was born June 3, 1947 in Warren, OH, the son of the late Walter E. and H. Josephine (Taft) Double. Jim graduated from Champion High School in 1965. He made many friends through his school years, and 50 years later they were still Jim's friends. Jim was a friendly outgoing man who made friends easily. Once you were a friend of Jim's you were a friend for life. He didn't believe in in-laws (or outlaws) he believed everyone was family. Jim worked for Packard Electric, a part of General Motors, on the battery line and as a truck driver. Jim retired in 1999, having 34 years of dedicated service to Packard. Jim was a proud member of the Cortland Moose Lodge 1012, where he was awarded a 2014 fellowship Degree of Honor. He volunteered his time working in the kitchen, being the treasurer, as a trustee and also helped where ever he was needed. He was a social member of the Slovak Club retirees group, and a social member of the Belington, West Virginia VFW. He was an avid NASCAR fan, a Minnesota Vikings fan and a Cleveland Browns fan (mostly just to irritate his son). Jim loved taking trips with his family to Las Vegas, (Hooters is going to miss him) and going camping at Blackwater Falls, West Virginia, he also loved spending time at his camp in West Virginia. He leaves behind his wife Debbie, who he met in January 1979, and married on March 17th 1983, and through the rough roads, pot-holes, icy patches, u-turns, s-curves, peaks and valleys, they managed to love each other and stay married for 31 years and 362 days. His children, Jon Daugherty, Marcy (Jim) Fisher, grandchildren, Kristen (Josh) Chandler, Darien Daugherty, Ashley (Chris) Legeune, Bryan Daugherty, Jacob Tapia, and Savannah Tapia. His brothers, Fred (Charlotte) Double and Leslie (Sandy) Double. Jim's other mom and dad, Jack and Ann Sandstrom. Jim's other brothers and sisters, Mike (Linda) McKenna, Carol (John) Wallace-McKay, Julie (Chris) Spaulding, Jamie (Wayne) Jerdan, Melissa (Patrick) McGuire, and Barb (Frankie) Mynchek. Nieces and nephews, Renee Williams, Curt (Julie) Double, Jenny (John) Palmer, Becky (Todd) Lucanski, Scott (Penny) Double, Wendy (Mark) Pozzuto, Tommy (Thedra) Burns, Paul (Chrissy) Burns, Kurt McKenna, Michael McKenna, Steve (Heather) Wallace, Kelsey McKenna, and Alex Spaulding.
