James E. Hearn

James E. Hearn, age 77, of Warren died at 9:18 pm Monday, October 22, 2007, at Hospice House in Poland, Ohio. He was born July 5, 1930 in Warren the son of the late James J. and Anna (Imes) Hearn. Jim attended St. Mary's Elementary School and Warren G. Harding and St. Mary's High Schools, graduating from St. Mary's High School in 1949. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Warren, where he sang in the choir for 30 years. He served in the Army during the Korean War and was a member of VFW Post 1090 and American Legion Post 278. Jim was also a member of Knights of Columbus Lodge No. 620, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 186, AARP, Warren SCOPE, the Trumbull County Historical Society, United Steel Workers of America Local 1375 retirees, the National Geographic Society and a social member of ITAM No. 128 and SOI No. 2356. He was an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan and enjoyed golf and other sports. Jim's favorite interest was singing and he loved to perform. He always said that when he got onstage he became another person, never being afraid to make a fool of himself, which he often did. He was a 45 year member of the Warren Chapter of the Stephen Foster Chorus of "The Barbershop Harmony Society", where he served as chapter historian for 38 years. Over the years, Jim sang bass in several quartets, "The Tune Charmers", "The Dandy Demons", "The Enterprise" and "The Country Gentlemen", and also with a small group directed by a close friend, Curt Dungan, called "Just Friends". He also often sang solos in the annual chapter shows. Jim had a vocal range of three octaves and always said that he thanked God for the talent He had given him, and he would use it to bring what joy he could into this life. Jim's two favorite sayings were, "Be yourself and people will always know you" and "Does Anybody Love Me"! He always was and we all do! Goodbye, Jim. Jim worked for Republic Steel / LTV Steel Corp. for 38 years retiring from the 56 inch hot strip department as mill recorder in 1986. He then worked for Bank One in Youngstown for 12 years retiring from the mail center in 1998. At the time of his illness, Jim was employed by Trumbull Community Action Programs (TCAP) in the transportation system. He is survived by his sister, Mary Elaine (Floyd) Colson of Warren; half-sisters, Patricia Machingo and Rose Ellen (Steven) Uchrinscko both of Warren and half-brothers, Gerald (Donna) Hearn of Rocklin, CA; Daniel (Connie) Hearn of Norman, OK and Thomas (Brenda) Hearn of Mayview, MO; several cousins, many nieces and nephews and most importantly by his special friend and companion, Ms. Joyce Davis of Cortland. Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepmother, Mrs. Helen McMillin Hearn Blazevic; his stepfafther, Michael Blazevic and a half-sister, Deloris Delida. Arrangements are being handled by Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Sunday. A memorial funeral mass will be at St. James Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Monday, October 29, 2007 with Rev. Charles Crumbley celebrating the mass. Cremation was held. Burial will be at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland. It was Jim's wish that material contributions be made to the Stephen Foster Chapter memorial fund or to Hospice of the Valley. A party to celebrate Jim's life is being planned for a later date.
