James M. Catterson

James M. Catterson Canfield- Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Monday Sept. 22, 2014 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown for James M. Catterson, 85, who passed peacefully, as a result of pulmonary fibrosis, with his family by his side on Wednesday evening at Hospice House in Poland. Mr. Catterson was born March 15, 1929 in Jackson Center, PA, the son of the late Frank and Geraldine (Wiand) Catterson He graduated from Warren G. Harding in 1947. He worked as general foreman of the cold strip for Republic Steel and WCI Steel where he retired after 49 years. He then went on to work for Antonine Sister Adult Daycare where he was a bus driver for 12 years, as well as driving a bus for Austintown School District. James proudly served his country in the Navy, as a sonar man, aboard the USS Harry F. Bauer during the Korean War. He was sergeant of the U.S. Navy Drum and Bugle Corp as well as a tin can sailor. He had been a member of the American Legion, past commander of 4237 VFW, band father for the Junior Military Band and worked for the JC Soapbox Durbys. He got most of his enjoyment from spending time with his family, traveling in his motor home and his animals, especially his dog Trixie. He will be sadly missed by his wife Joyce L. (Moody) Catterson, children Cynthia Catterson of Greece, Phyllis Catterson of Houston, James (Jennifer) Catterson of Colorado, Marnie (Ed) McMurray of Howland and Robin (Terry) Vickers of N. Jackson, three grand daughters Gillian and Victoria McMurray and Samantha Vickers and brother Robert Catterson of Fl. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Peggy Miller. Family and friends may call from 6-8pm on Sunday Sept. 21, 2014 at Lane Family Funeral Homes Austintown. Interment will be at Belmont Park Cemetery.
