James S. Farkas

James S. Farkas, 69, of Cortland, passed away peacefully on Sunday January 22, 2012 at his residence with his family & friends at his side. James was born June 27, 1942, in Warren, Ohio a son of the late Frank and Rose Hildack Farkas. He was formerly from Gustavus where he resided for 20 years, before moving to Cortland in 1994. He was a 1960 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. Jim was employed at Wean United as a machinist for several years. He then worked as a tool and die maker at Packard Electric for 31 years before retiring in 2004 from BEC. He was a member of Fish & Game Club of Vienna, Mt. Jewett Sportsman's Club of Mt. Jewett and Trout Unlimited. He enjoyed being outdoors and he especially loved fishing, hunting and gardening. You would often find him sitting on the back porch relaxing and sharing stories. His grandchildren were one of his greatest joys and he enjoyed spending time, and teaching them his various skills. Jim will be sadly missed by his wife the former Georgette Durba Farkas, whom he married August 31, 1963. He also survived by two daughters, Justine Scott of Cortland, and Lisa (Timothy) Rogers of Gustavus; three grandchildren Ryan and Kathryn Scott and Kimberly Rogers. He leaves one brother, Frank Michael (Jean) Farkas of Austintown and a sister, Karen (Randy) Brainard of Champion. He was preceded in death by an infant son James S. Farkas, Jr., and a sister, Rosemary Pascute. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26, 2012 from 4PM 7PM at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2012 at 10am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Warren where the family will again receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. Bernard Schmalzried will be officiating and burial will be in the All Souls Cemetery in Cortland. The family requests that material tributes take the form of donations to Fish & Game Club of Vienna, P.O Box 567, Vienna, OH 44473; Mt. Jewett Sportsman's Club of Mt. Jewett, P.O. Box 282, Mt. Jewitt, PA 16740 or Hazel Hurst Kids Fishing Derby c/o John Walker Box 97 Hazel Hurst, PA 16733 in Jim's Memory. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
