James Sampson

North BloomfieldServices will be held 11 AM Tuesday at Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel for James Leonard Sampson who passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side. The son of J. Leonard and Esther (Kerr) Sampson, Jim was born March 18, 1940 in Niles OH. In 1958 he graduated from Niles-McKinley High School. He later went on to receive his Bachelor's of Science in Education from Youngstown College. On June 24, 1972, Jim married Nancy (Kuhn) with whom he spent close to 40 wonderful years of marriage. Jim taught the students of Bloomfield High School for 30 years until his retirement in 1994. Even after his retirement he remained an active part of the school attending sporting events and conversing with his former students. Jim also belonged to several organizations including the Gustavus Lodge #442 Free and Accepted Masons, Mahoning Chapter #10, the Order of the Scottish Rite, and the Bloomfield Mespo Education Association while he was teaching. Jim is survived by his wife Nancy, four nieces Theresa (Bill) Brennan, Jennifer (Ray) Hadley, Sharon (Daniel) Batyk and Linda (James) Tenney and one nephew David (Charity) Kuhn. He also leaves behind his Aunt Rose Kerr McConnell and Cousin Jeannie Lerch both of Casselberry FLA, as well as fourteen great-nieces and nephews. Jim will be sadly missed by all of his former students whom he considered to be his kids. Jim is preceded in death by his parents. Friends may call from 2 PM- 4 PM and 6 PM-8 PM Monday with a Masonic Service at 8:15 PM. Friends may also call from 10AM-11AM Tuesday at Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel with a service following. The service will be conducted by Jim's nephew Pastor Ray Hadley. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made in James' name to either Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market St. Youngstown OH 44512-2198 or the Bloomfield High School Athletic Dept. 2077 Park West Rd. North Bloomfield OH 44450. Jim will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
