James V. Amato, 78, of Niles, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 7:29PM at Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital after complications from a stroke. Born June 11, 1929 in Meadville, PA, he was the son of the late Sylvester and Elizabeth (Galle) Amato. A Warren area resident since 1959, Jim was a 1948 graduate of Hornell High School. A veteran of the United States Army, Jim was honorably discharged in 1953. He retired from Packard Electric in 1993 where he worked as a Labor Relations Representative for 40 years. Jim was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Known as the “Mayor of the Mall”, Jim was an avid mall walker. He was a N.Y. Yankees and Notre Dame football fan. He was both a great football and baseball player, enjoyed golfing and bowling. Jim attended the Annual Brothers Bowling Tournament in Erie, PA with his four brothers. Jim was also a great supporter of the Ohio Educational Fund. He married Kay (Williams) Amato August 1, 1959. Together they shared 47 years of marriage and four children. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Kay of Niles, Children Gayle (Dave) Hatton of Manhattan Beach, CA, Jim Amato of Warren, and Christine (John) Costianes of Champion, five grandchildren, Aaron, Carrie Ann, and David Killen, Nicky and Joey Costianes and a great grandson on the way, five brothers Dominic (Dolores) Amato of Brookfield, John (Theresa) Amato of Meadville, PA, Frank (Pat) Amato of Greenville, PA and Richard (Pat) Amato of Pittsburgh, PA. Jim is also survived by brother-in-law whom he helped raise, Richard Williams of Spokane, WA. He was preceded in death by a daughter Cindy Amato in 1969 and by a brother Dominic Galle. Calling hours will be held Sunday, July 15, 2007 from 4 to 6PM at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Charles Crumbley will officiate a funeral mass Monday, July 16, 2007 at 10:30AM at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be held in the All Souls Cemetery where full military honors will be observed. Contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church at 2532 Burton St. SE Warren, OH 44484.
