James V. Marter

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday at Western Reserve United Methodist Church for James Vandivort Marter of Cornersburg who passed away on Friday, January 16th at Forum Northside Hospital. James was born August 11, 1929 in Bradford Woods, Pennsylvania the son of Raymond and Irene (Vandivort) Marter. An Air Force Veteran, Jim was the service manager for Johnson Controls for over 30 years retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Western Reserve United Methodist Church, the Saxon Club, and was a fifty year member of the Youngstown Model Railroad Club. He was also the President of the Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association, as well as a member of the Toy Train Collector's Association. He was also a member of the Union Pacific Historical Society and the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. Jim was instrumental in the transporting and restoration of the antique steam engine that rests in the Western Reserve Village at the Canfield Fairgrounds where he was a trustee of the Village. Jim leaves three daughters: Pamela (Andy) Crowe of Bessemer, AL, Stephanie (Ed) Schuler of Chillicothe, and Jamie (Bill) Davis of Boardman. He also leaves a brother Raymond Marter of Satellite Beach, FL and four grandchildren: Michelle Schwiefert, Michael Crowe, William and Robert Davis as well as four great-grandchildren: Jasmine Crowe, Kaylee Solomon, Maxwell and Amelia Schwiefert. Jim also leaves his companion Dorothy McNaughton. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Amelia "Millie" Bauer whom he married April 20, 1952 and passed away on April 19, 1998. Friends and family may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel as well as from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be sent to either the Western Reserve United Methodist Church or to the Mahoning Valley Railroad Heritage Association.
