James W. Higgins

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel for James W. Higgins, 89, of Lordstown who passed away Sunday afternoon in Briarfield at Ashley Circle Care Center. Jim was born July 26, 1921 in Sebring the son of Rae W. and Carrie E. (Dickens) Higgins. He was a decorated WWII Army Veteran receiving two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. Jim retired in 1988 from the Twinsburg Stamping Plant of the Chrysler Corporation where he worked on the line. He was a member of the VFW Post in Sebring and the American Legion Post in Sebring, and was involved with the Purple Heart Organization in Youngstown. Jim leaves his wife the former Virginia L. Thompson, three sons; James R. Higgins of Hartford, Ron S. Higgins of Deerfield, and Joseph R. Higgins Alliance, two daughters; Valerie Coman of Austintown, and Luanne Koehler of Warren, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Besides his parents, Jim is preceded in death by a brother Robert Higgins, and one sister Dolores J. Welsch. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 PM today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to either the VFW Post or the American Legion Post both in Sebring.
