Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Canfield Presbyterian Church for James W. Tyo of Canfield who passed away Wednesday morning at his home following a short illness. Jim was born September 18, 1920 in South Zanesville, OH the son of Levi Edward and Florence Elizabeth (Martin) Tyo. He was a graduate of Philo High School in Philo, Ohio. Mr. Tyo retired from the construction industry where he was self employed in the building and remodeling of residential homes. Prior to that he was employed by the Republic Steel Corp. of Niles and was the head herdsman at Lou-Ida Farms near the Meander Reservoir. He was a member of the Canfield Presbyterian Church and various other area organizations. His hobbies were taking care of his yard and tending to his many flowers, particularly his roses, which he shared with others. Another hobby was making candy canes at Christmas, a hobby he shared with family and friends. Jim leaves his wife of nearly 63 years, the former Vera Rosalind Mount, whom he married December 24, 1941 in Covington, KY. He also leaves two daughters: Barbara (Robert) Hendricks of Leetonia and Karen (David) Rich of Canfield; Two sons, J. David (Louise) Tyo of Salem, and Richard (Patricia) Tyo of Gilbert, AZ. Jim also leaves nine grandchildren: Sharon Hendricks, Robert (Amy) Hendricks, JR., Richard (Marci) Hendricks II, William (Leann) Rich, Kelly (Dan) Anzevino, Renee (James) Whippo, Cooper Tyo, R. Alexander Tyo, and Nicolette Tyo, as well as three great-grandchildren whom Jim adored: Annie and Elle Hendricks, and Jimmy Whippo Jr. Jim was the last of his siblings, being preceded in death by brothers Ovid E., Delbert R., John M., Gerald L., K. Paul, and Levi M. Tyo, and sisters Thelma B. Tyo, Audrey E. Longshore Riston, and Florence M. Pryor. Friends and family may call from 4-7 PM on Friday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel as well as from 10-11 AM on Saturday, one hour prior to the services in the Church. Interment will be in Dean Hill Cemetery in Canfield Township. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Canfield Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund or to the Farmer’s National Bank Relay for Life Fund in Jim’s name.
