North Jackson: Janet Kathryn Eckis, age 82, a longtime resident of North Jackson passed away quietly at home Sunday, September 9, 2012. Born September 4, 1930, in Mogadore, she was the daughter of Harry and Hazel (Stroup) Eckis; she attended the old Jackson Milton High School where she met and married her high school sweetheart Michael (Pupinak) Eckis on June 12, 1950, he passed away in 2001 after over 50 years of marriage. Janet worked and enjoyed her job as a PBX switchboard operator at the old TB sanitarium on Kirk Rd. in Austintown. She was a member of the First Federated Church in North Jackson. Janet was interested in family geneology and was proud to have descended from pioneer families with names such as Stroup and McMahon in her family tree. Her grandfather was a mail carrier in North Jackson delivering mail by horse and buggy. Her family also donated land to the Eckis Cemetery on Newton Falls Rd. in Milton Township. She enjoyed flowers, her family farm, and gardening with her grandson Garret Crum. She was anticipating the birth of her first great-grandchild in April 2013. Survivors include her children: Debra (James) Bartek of North Jackson, Mary Jane (William) Hackathorn of Lisbon, and Susan (Ronnie) Crum of North Jackson; grandchildren: James (Jacqui) Bartek, Marisa (John Sweesy) Bartek, Jeremy (Jennifer) Bartek, Jessica (Josh Trollio) Bartek, Joshua Bartek, Teddy Anzelmo, Jr., Lisa Anzelmo, and Garret Crum. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Michael, grand-daughter Kristen Crum, sister Harriett Bayus, and brother Robert Goldner. Private services will be held for the family where Fred Schrock will officiate and burial will take place at the North Jackson Cemetery.
