Jaunita Faye Smith

Juanita Faye Smith, 81 of Fowler went home to be with the Lord at 8:05 am, Wednesday March 2, 2011 at St Joseph Health Center. She was born in Alliance on June 1, 1929, the daughter of the late Charles T. and Emaline M. (Coffman) Brickner. Moving to the area 55 years ago, Juanita was a member of Cortland Trinity Baptist Church where she was very active with vacation Bible school, the Widow's Support Group and helping in the nursery. Juanita loved to be out in nature and enjoyed taking fall weekend trips with her family to Cook's Forest. Juanita had a generous heart, loved everyone she met and would always be willing to lend a helping hand in a time of need. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with those dear to her especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Juanita was a nurse's aide at St. Elizabeth's Hospital and also at Concord Care Center of Cortland, which is formerly Faber's Nursing Home. She married her husband, Harry L. Smith on July 7, 1951. Together they shared 43 years of marriage until his passing on December 24, 1994. Juanita is survived by her children; Ellen Altobelli of Niles, Bradford L. (Patricia) Smith of Pompano Beach, Florida, Brenda A. (Mike) Marrara of Niles, Martin D. (Linda M.) Smith of Elyria, Paul F. (Lynn) Smith of Bazetta Twp. and a step daughter Marilyn Zeppernick of Salem; siblings Charline Brickner of Alliance and David (Cheryl) Switzer of Hanoverton; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry and siblings Bernard C. Brickner, Eileen Brennan, Francis Brickner, Vivian Rouse, Berona "Holly" Barzda and Beverly White. Funeral services will be held at 10am Saturday at Cortland Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Barker officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Friday from 5-8pm at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel, Cortland. Burial will be at Dugan Cemetery in Fowler Township.
