Jeffrey T Schrum

November 14, 1963 — July 26, 2011

Jeffrey T, Schrum, 47 of Canfield lost his courageous battle with cancer Tuesday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Boardman Campus. Jeffrey was born November 14, 1963 in Youngstown, a son of Paul E. and Louise M. Rupert Schrum and was a lifelong Canfield resident. He graduated from Canfield High School in 1982 and had been a self-employed mechanic, well known for building race engines. Jeff had raced sprint cars across the country since he was 18. In 1989 and 1991 he was Sharon Speedway Track champion. He also held a track record for the fastest lap at Buckeye Speedway and had won the Syracuse Qualifier five times in Syracuse, New York. Besides his father, Paul E. "Butch" Schrum of Berlin Center, he leaves his wife the former Jenny Port whom he married February 25, 1989; two daughters, Samantha Marie Schrum and Sarah Louise Schrum, two sisters, Lori L. (Don) Kalenits of Katy, Texas, Jennifer L. (Dave) Casanta of Columbiana, several nieces and nephews and one great niece. Jeff was preceded in death by his mother, Louise M. Schrum and his grandparents, Detmer and Grace Spear and Paul and Margaret Schrum. Friends may call on Sunday at Lane Funeral Home, Canfield Chapel from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and from 10-11am Monday at Austintown Community Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 o'clock at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to The Paul Esposito Foundation for the continuation of Bile Duct/Liver Cancer Research at UPMC.
