Jerylie Hendrix Powers, 96 Jerylie passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday morning with her daughter and son at her side. Jerry was born January 1, 1920 in Galveston, Texas, a daughter of the late William Porteus Hendrix and Jerylie Yapp Hendrix. She attended Girls High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She then attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Delta Sorority. She was office manager for Food Machinery Corporation in Lakeland, Florida during World War II when the company was manufacturing tanks for the Navy. It was there she met her husband, Franklin Irving Powers, who passed away on January 11, 1992. Jerry leaves behind a daughter, Judy Katherine Powers, of Canfield and a son, Franklin Michael Powers of Boardman, Ohio. She resided in Bay Village, Ohio from 1950 to 1966. There she was a charter member and president of The Village 100 Club. She was a past president of Bay Village Women's Club and was District Chairwoman of Girl Scouts. Jerry has resided in Canfield since 1966. She was president for The Friends of American Art, and served on the boards of Butler Institute of American Art and the Youngstown Symphony Society. She also was a member of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, the Canfield Historical Society, Fellows Riverside Gardens, Saturday Evening Dance Club, and the Youngstown Country Club. Jerry was president of the Tourist Club and Garden Club of Youngstown. She was a charter member and president of the Ticker Tape Investment Club. She loved to go on trips with her girlfriends which were known as Strawberry Safaris, as she decorated her house with everything strawberry. She also had a passion for gardening. She and Frank used ropes wrapped around trees to plant daffodils on the front bank at her house in Canfield, where they bloom to this day. She was an avid tennis player, and water skied into her seventies. Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday, April 30th at Lane Family Funeral Homes, 65 N. Broad Street, Canfield Chapel . Per Jerry's wishes there will be no services. The family would like to thank friends and family, Hospice of the Valley, First Light and Home Instead for their caring support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Hospice of the Valley , 5190 Market Street, Boardman, OH 44512.
