John A. Martin, 66, of Warren, loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend to many, passed away after fighting a courageous battle with leukemia on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at St. Joseph Health Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 18, 1948 in Salem, Ohio, the son of Anthony R. and Audrey J. (Hall) Martin, one of "Seven Wonderful Children." John was a 1966 graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, served in the U.S. Navy for six years, and was a long time employee of U.S. Steel. John was an avid hunter and fisherman, gun collector, car enthusiast, and loyal Cleveland sports fan. In addition to his parents, John leaves behind his wife, Gaye Martin, together for 27 years; his two daughters, Stacie Lynn Martin and Melissa Lynn Martin; his three step-children, Tracie (Bill) Martin, Larry (Stephanie) Wilmoth, Daniel Flanigan; his six siblings, Tony (Marijo) Martin, Raymond (Kristine) Martin, Jim (Krissi) Martin, Mary Ann (Ed) Costello, Sandy (Cliff) Miller, Linda (Art) Saunders; his seven grandchildren, Dustin, Dyllan, Lexie, Courtney, Nathan, Bryttany, Kayla; his eight great-grandchildren. He was affectionately referred to as "Papa" by all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. His two daughters will forever cherish his amazing strength, generous heart, light hearted humor, and constant guidance. A private memorial service will be held.
