John Allen Jewell

March 10, 1926 — October 30, 2016

John Allen Jewell, 90 of Uniontown, Pa. and formerly of Warren went home to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, October 30, 2016, at Mt. Macrina Manor in Uniontown, Pa. He was born March 10, 1926 in Warren, the son of the late Vanton C. and Mary E. Pelton Jewell. He had been a lifetime Warren resident. John was a 1944 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and received his Bachelors degree in industrial engineering from G.M.I. He worked for 42 1/2 years at Packard Electric Corp. in the cost estimating department, retiring in 1986. John was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Warren, where he served as chalice administrator, a Sunday school teacher and usher. With his wife, Anne, he was a member of the church Happy Tymers and together they served as high school church youth group leaders. He and his wife were longtime members of the Adler's Gate group at the First United Methodist Church in Warren. John was an avid reader, was a member of the Friends of the Warren Trumbull Public Library (FOWL) and served as a volunteer with Trumbull County Mobile Meals. John was an avid stock car racing fan, was a member of the Twin State Auto Club, and played basketball with the Packard Electric basketball team in the Industrial League as well as the church league. He was an avid sports fan and had played local league baseball and had coached Little League. He is survived by one daughter, Mary E. (The Rev. John T.) Cruikshank with whom he made his home in Uniontown; a brother-in-law, The Rev. David W. Pumphrey of Ann Arbor, Mich. and several nieces and nephews. His beloved wife, Elizabeth Anne Pumphrey Jewell, whom he married June 29, 1957 preceded him in death September of 2006. The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Christ Episcopal Church in Warren, where a memorial service will be held in the Christ Chapel at 11 a.m. The Rev. Thomas C. Pumphrey and The Rev. John T. Cruikshank will officiate. Burial will be at Kinsman Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Episcopal Church outreach fund, 2627 Atlantic St., Warren, Oh 44483; the Warren Trumbull Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, OH 44483 or to St. Peter's Anglican Church, 60 Morgantown St., Uniontown, PA 15401.
