John B Jack Szwedko

John B. "Jack" Szwedko, age 48, of Cortland, OH, died on Monday, January 2, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital in Andover, OH. He was born on March 25, 1963, in Sharpsburg, PA, a son of Joseph B. Szwedko and Mary Jane Peiffer Szwedko. Jack was a graduate of Fox Chapel High School in Pittsburgh, PA and was a member of St. Robert Catholic Church in Cortland. He had worked for K Mart Corp for 25 years before accepting a position as store manager for Lowes where he worked for the past 5 years. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed the years that he had spent coaching his son's baseball team and loved the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Steelers. Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Reihley Szwedko whom he married on May 5, 1984; son, Nicholas A. Szwedko of Cortland, daughters, Brittany L. Szwedko and Jayna R. Szwedko both of Cortland, his mother, Mary Jane Szwedko of Sharpsburg, PA, and two brothers, Joseph B. (Jean) Szwedko of Verona, PA and Jeff F. Szwedko of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are many cousins, including his close cousin, Patty Haley of Pittsburgh, PA, two nieces and one nephew. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Joseph B. Szwedko, paternal grandparents, Michael and Nellie Szwedko and his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Rena Peiffer. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 5, 2012, from 4PM 8PM at the Shafer-Winans Funeral Chapel in Cortland, OH. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 11AM at St. Robert Catholic Church with the Rev. Carl Kish officiating.
