John Brace

Military funeral service was held today at Green Haven Memorial Gardens Chapel for John Brace, 86, of Austintown, who passed away Tuesday morning March 17, at his home after a brief illness. John was born on December 12, 1928, in Monmouthshire, Wales, UK to George and Lily (Sheppard) Brace. The family immigrated to the USA and settled in Youngstown, Ohio. He graduated from The Rayen School in 1948 and was a Staff Sergeant Med Technician in The Korean War serving until 1952. On January 12, 1957 he married the former Pauline Maletsky of Youngstown and lived in Austintown. John worked for Saramar Aluminum after 25 years of service where he was a Foreman and retired as Vice President. After his retirement he became the Grounds Keeper for Koch Baseball Fields in Austintown. Besides his wife Pauline, he leaves one son John (Jackie) Brace and one daughter Patti (Joe) Koch both of Austintown. John also leaves 6 grand children, who were his pride and joy, and lovingly called him "Papa"; Joe, Tony, Tori, and Mandi Koch all of Austintown, Lindsay Adair and her husband Mark of Streetsboro, and Christopher Brace of Austintown. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Eric, Ivor, and Tom Brace, and one sister Georgina Hunter. Following John's wishes there were no calling hours and private services were held. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Koch Family Charitable Foundation in John's name. Arrangements were entrusted to the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
