BERLIN CENTER----Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday at St. Michael Church in Canfield for Mr. John E. Gmitter Jr, of Berlin Center, who passed away Saturday morning at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Jack was born March 15, 1939 in Youngstown to parents John E. (deceased) and Ethel J. Cole Gmitter. A lifelong area resident, Jack worked as a supervisor with General Motors in Lordstown, retiring after 24 years with the company. He was a member of St. Michael Church and its men’s club,as well as a member of both the Masons and the Saxon Club. Formerly, Jack had been a member of the Carpenters Union #171. He is survived by his mother of Youngstown, his wife, the former Patricia A. Malie, whom he married June 27, 1959, two daughters, Kathleen A, Gmitter of Houston, TX and Susan L. Harrington and husband Larry Harrington of Canfield, two sons, John J. Gmitter of New Port Richey, FL and Michael D. Gmitter and wife Lisa of Austintown, and one sister, Nancy Fronk and husband Jerry of Youngstown, four grandchildren, who affectionally knew him as “Papa”, Sara L and Thomas J. Harrington and Zackary M. and Mikayla L. Gmitter along with several nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews. Jack was a loving, caring father, grandfather and a very devoted, loving husband. He and his wife were building their dream house in Berlin where Jack loved the hours of his lifelong passion of woodworking. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday and from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Friday at the Lane Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel.
