John H. Ayers

John "Jack" H. Ayers, 94, of Masury passed away early Tuesday morning March 6, 2012, in the Sharon Regional Health System. Jack was born on May 15, 1917 in Youngstown, OH a son of Reginal and Agnes (Jones) Ayers. He was a 1936 graduate of Brookfield High School and went on to enlist in the United States Army during World War II serving in Alaska during the Aleutian Islands Campaign against the Japanese Empire. For his service to his country he received the Asiatic- Pacific Theater Medal, a Bronze Star, and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his honorable discharge Jack worked for G.A.T.X. in Masury for more than thirty years before his retirement. Jack was a member of the V.F.W. Post #3521 in Vienna, the former V.F.W. Post #8860 in Masury, the American Legion Post #432 of Wheatland, PA, and was a Charter Member of the Brookfield Township Fire Department. Throughout his life he enjoyed bowling and golfing in several local leagues, as well as vegetable gardening and taking several bus trips to casinos with his friends. He is survived by his step-daughter Kathleen Fishlock of Lancaster, NY; step-son William Kauffman of Sharon, PA; two sisters Ruth Wimer of Sharon, PA and Eva Siciliano of Farrell, PA; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife the former Evelyn I. Flynn who passed away on January 10, 1977, two brothers Frank and George Ayers, and by a sister Daisy Adams. Funeral Services will be held on Friday March 9, 2012 at the Madasz Funeral Chapel in Brookfield, OH beginning at 5:00PM. Burial will be with his wife at the Brookfield Township Cemetery.
