Mr. John H. Rice, age 85, of Masury, OH passed away on Thursday morning December 2, 2010, at Sharon Regional Hospital. He was born on May 2, 1925 in Cambria County, Pa. the son of the late Jesse and Emma (Davis) Rice. John served in the United States Army during World War II as a Private and for his service to our country he received the World War II Victory Ribbon. Following his time in the service he went on to work for Sharon Steel Corporation for more than thirty years as a laborer. He moved to Masury, OH in 1960 with his wife the former Althea “Pinch” McDonnell whom he married on May 31, 1946. Together they would share more than sixty-three years of marriage and four children. John is survived by his daughter, Debra K. Lobaugh of Auburn Hills, Mich.; two sons, Richard J. (Carol) Rice and Randy W. (Sandy) Rice both of Masury; six grandchildren, Josh Aiken, Tara Akers, Jennifer Rice, Amy Wharry, Heather Schuster and Brandi Huff; four great-grandchildren Cameron, Brayden, Jason and Taylor. He was preceded in death by his wife Althea on January 24, 2010, a daughter Shirley J. Rice, grandson Jon Rice. Arrangements are being handled by Madasz Funeral Chapel in Brookfield, OH where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at 12:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Herron of the Masury United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be with his wife at the Brookfield Township Cemetery.
