John I. ''Jack'' Kelly

April 14, 1927 — January 11, 2004

Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM at Martin Luther Lutheran Church for Jack Kelly of Canfield who passed away on Sunday at Briarfield Manor Care Center from complications of both Alzheimer’s Disease and Diabetes. Jack was born April 14, 1927 in Youngstown the son of Raymond and Gertrude (Higgins) Kelly. A WWII Marine Veteran, Jack was railroad conductor for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad and retired in 1987 after 47 years of service. He was also a full time bus driver for the Boardman Schools for 25 years. He was a member of the Canfield Roundtable II, the AARP #3104 where served as Tour Director, the railroad retirees club, and was a little league baseball coach. Jack also worked with the Cub Scouts, was a 4-H advisor and a member of the Mahoning Saddle and Bridle Association as well as working at the Youngstown Charity Horse show. A member of St. Patrick’s Church in Youngstown, Jack was also a member of the Canfield American Legion and the Eagles. Jack leaves his wife, the former Margraret “Peg” Bader, whom he married October 9, 1948 and four children: Dr. John (Kim) Kelly of Marietta, GA, Bill J. (Terry) Kelly of Rydal, GA, Susan (Wayne) Pardee of Canal Fulton, OH, and Patricia “Pete” (Don) Mealy of Liberty, OH. He also leaves two brothers: Thomas Kelly of Canfield, and James Kelly of Boardman. Eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Raymond and William Kelly. The family would also like to thank Eric Harmon and adopted daughter Peg Will for all their support. Friends and family may call from 1-3 and 6-8 PM on Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Canfield Chapel as well as from 10-11 AM on Thursday, one hour prior to the services in church. Memorial contributions may be sent to either Hospice of the Valley or the Martin Luther Lutheran Church Memorial fund.
