John J. Dick

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish for John J. "Jack" Dick Sr.. John passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, September 2, at his home. He was born April 2, 1934 in Youngstown the son of John and Elizabeth "Betty" (Toporcer) Dick. He was a graduate of South High School where he was selected to the Vindicator All City Football Team. He retired in 1996 from Wean United where he was plant production manager. He was a former member of the Austintown Park Board. John was elected to the Austintown School Board in 1973 and served until he retired in 1996 to spend his winters in Fort Myers, FL., where he enjoyed fishing on the "Poppa Jacks" boat with his sons and grandchildren. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. John was a proud member of the Austintown Touchdown Club and was a faithful follower of the Fitch football teams, where he had season tickets for over 50 years. He was a longtime member of Salem Hills Golf and Country Club. John especially enjoyed golfing with his sons and his Wednesday night guys. His favorite times were spent with his family on vacations at the beach. John leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 67 years, and high school sweetheart, Beverly Pettit, four sons, John Jr. (Shirley), Tom (Lou Ann), Bob (Renee), and Jim (Stephanie). He was a loving grandfather to 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, including his newest great grand, Millie Jack. He also leaves 15 nieces and nephews who adored him. John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James J. Dick. Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel and again from 9 to 9:45 AM Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where a mass will begin at 10 AM.
