BOARDMAN- John "Jack" M. McCarthy III, 55, of Boardman, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2013 after a brief battle with cancer. Jack was born on January 27, 1958 to John M. Jr. and JoAnn (Mullen) McCarthy. Jack was a 1976 graduate of Hubbard High School and employed as a supervisor for the State of Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities for 25 years. Jack was a proud Irish Catholic and enjoyed embracing his heritage with his involvement in the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Gaelic Society. He was an avid golfer and also played and coached softball and tennis. He also was part of the Browns Backers Club and loved to follow OSU and Notre Dame Football. Jack enjoyed spending time antiquing and visiting wineries and pubs with his wife. Left to mourn Jack's passing is his loving wife of 26 years, Teresa J. (Fry) McCarthy of Boardman; parents, John M. Jr. and JoAnn McCarthy of Hubbard; sisters, Debbie (Jim) Auman of Austintown, Colleen (Gary) Gebhardt of Poland, and Maureen (Joe) O'Neill of Cuyahoga Falls; brother, Ed (Hilary) McCarthy of Hubbard; brother-in-law, Greg (Barb) Lincoln of Campbell; and his good friend and uncle, Dave (Diane) Mullen of Austintown. Jack will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, Courtney and Christopher Auman, Brenna and Shayla Gebhardt, Erin, Mackenzie and Regan O'Neill, E.J. and Alan McCarthy, Erica Brown of VA, Ken (Jacqui) Lincoln of Niles, and Stephanie Lincoln; and his cats Finnegan and Mulligan. Jack was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law Phyllis and William Fry. Family will receive friends from 5PM to 8PM at Lane Family Funeral Homes Austintown on Monday, September 9, 2013. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, September 10, at AM at St. Patricks Church in Hubbard. Jack's family would like to thank Dr. Tom Albani and all of Jack's caregivers during his illness, as well as Humility of Mary Hospice House for both their devotion and special care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack's memory to Humility of Mary Hospice House, 9803 Sharrot Rd., Poland, OH 44514.
