John L. Lewis, 75 of Howland Township, died Monday, October 21, 2013, at The Cleveland Clinic after a short illness. He was born September 4, 1938 in Page, West Virginia the youngest child of the late Homer and Gertrude Wilson Lewis. He moved to Ohio from West Virginia in 1955. John served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1959. He retired in 1991 from Delphi Packard Electric, where he worked as a tow motor driver, artos cutter and union representative for 32 years. John managed LIttle League teams for many years and was past director of the Howland Athletic Club. He attended First Baptist Church of McDonald. He was an avid Ohio State and West Virginia Univ. fan. John enjoyed bowling and golfing and loved attending the grandkids' sporting events. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol Thayer Lewis, whom he married August 28, 1956; three sons, John B. Lewis of Lawrenceville, NJ, David T. (Jolene) Lewis and Tim (Valerie) Lewis both of Howland; a son-in-law, Al Cyples of North Ridgeville; thirteen grandchildren, Lacy (Tom) Riegert, Lindsey Cyples, Regan Horn, Geoffrey and Daniel Lewis, Kelly (Dave) Ginter, David (Beth) Lewis Jr., Tommy and Emily Lewis, J.T. Sidor and Victoria, Zachary and Nicholas Lewis and five great grandchildren, Dylan and Brianna Lewis, Nevaeh Renniker and David and Lucas Ginter. One daughter, Sherri Cyples and eight brothers and four sisters all have preceded him in death. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013, at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren and also one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Saturday at the funeral home. Pastor Michael Setser will officiate. Burial will be at Crown Hill Burial Park in Vienna. Mmeorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at First Baptist Church of McDonald, 602 Illinois Ave., McDonald, OH 44720 or to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406.
