John Leifeld Myers

John Leifeld Myers, 94, of Howland, passed away Friday morning, November 14, 2014 at Shepherd of the Valley in Howland. John was born on March 8, 1920 in London, Ohio, the son of the late Charles Pearl and Ethel Louise (Leifeld) Myers. John received his private pilot license in 1941, just before his 21st birthday. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, where he was in the 9th Air Force 366th Fighter Group over in France, Germany, Belgium, and England. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, World War II Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 6 Bronze Stars. He also participated in D-Day Plus 2. John was employed at American Welding, where he worked as an engineer for thirty eight years before retiring in 1982. He was a past member of the Howland Community Church, member of the American Metal Society, and a member of the JR. Chamber of Commerce. In his spare time he enjoyed golfing and was a member of several golf leagues in the area. He also loved riding his snowmobile, sailing, and was a lover of animals. He loved to travel and visited many places, including Europe, Hawaii and Alaska and had visited all 50 states. John loved his family and was a devoted husband and father. He loved to be on the "go" and was always ready at a moments notice to travel anywhere. There were always Sunday afternoon drives and vacations in the summer with his family. John will be missed by his son John A. "Jack" Myers of San Angelo, Texas; his daughter Sue (James) Blosser of Warren; four step- children, Nicki (Larry) Soice of Witchita, Noel Cromwell of Overland Park, Kansas, Sharon Mayrath of Kansas City, Missouri, and Melissa (Ken) Wagner of Monument, Colo.; three grandchildren, Alissa Myers of Ocala, FL, Robert (Kristi) Blosser of Avon Lake, and Jon (April) Blosser of Warren; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley and Cody Smith, Hayden and Mackenzie Blosser and Shayla Rader. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Virginia (Adams) Myers, whom he married on December 27, 1945 and passed away on November 29, 1984, and his second wife Twyla (Mayrath) Myers, whom he married on April 5, 1986 and passed away June of 2011. The family will greet friends and family for one hour prior to the 1 p.m. service on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts- Clark Chapel in Warren, with Pastor John Eastman officiating. Burial will be at Howland Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406 or to Hospice of the Valley, 5000 E. Market St., Warren, OH 44484.
