John Paul Ondik

July 12, 1925 — October 10, 2015

John P. Ondik, age 90 of Cortland, died Saturday evening, October 10, 2015, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was born July 12, 1925 in Monongahela, Pennsylvania the son of the late George and Anna Chohrach Ondik. His parents moved to Warren from Pa. when he was a youngster. John was a 1943 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School in Warren. He then joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943 and served as a technical sergeant during World War II until 1946. He then went to college at Loyola University and received his bachelor of science degree. He resumed his career with the Marine Corps starting in 1948 and served as a 1st Lieutenant during the Korean War from 1951-1955. John worked as a restaurant manager at various restaurants during his working career, including the prestigious Five Crown and Lowry's Restaurants in California and the Sea Watch in N. Fort Lauderdale. He was of the Catholic faith and was an avid bingo player. John is survived by six nieces and nephews, Jerry Ondik of Niles, Judy Seifer of Ft. Worth, Barbara (William) Cranston of Howland, Stephanie (Steve) Apfel of Salt Lake City, Susan Butler of Cortland and JoAnne Francis of Evanston, Wyoming. Several great and great great nieces and nephews also survive. Per John's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services and cremation will be held. Arrangements were entrusted to Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren. Online condolences may be made to the family and the obituary viewed at
