John W. Spath Sr.

AUSTINTOWN- John W. Spath Sr., 68, of Austintown, passed away at 8:20 AM Saturday, March 10, 2007 in Briarfield at Ashley Circle after a battle with Alzheimer’s. John was born April 18, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio and was the son of the late John E. and Florence (Johnson) Spath. John was a graduate of Garfield High School in Cleveland and retired in 1995 from United Consumers Club after owning the company for 25 years. Prior to moving to the Mahoning Valley, John was a Cleveland Police Officer for 14 years. John was a member of Austintown Community Church, the Fraternal Order of Police of Cleveland, and the Marine Corps in his early years. John was an avid Cleveland Browns and Indians fan and all of his grandchildren were his life. John is survived by his wife of 45 years the former Sharon M. Olbrysh, whom he married August 5, 1961; three children John W. (Amy) Jr., Jill L. Horvath, and Sandy C. (Dr. Douglas) Stewart; a brother Robert (Joanne) and a sister Carol Moran; nine grandchildren Rachel Horvath, Mackenzie, Allison, Maxwell, Ella, Molly, Samuel, and Sadie Stewart, and John W. Spath III. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother Charles Whited. Funeral Service will be held at 11AM Saturday in the Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, where family will receive friends from 9 until 11AM. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
