AUSTINTOWN- John Achey Sr, 65, passed away on July 11, 2014 from a brief illness. His strong will to fight enabled him to make it through the day for his son's wedding. Born December 29, 1948 in Youngstown to Paul and Marion Achey. He was a proud Austintown resident and a member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown. John enlisted in the US Army on Sept 7, 1967 and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was a fork truck driver for 35 years at GM's plant in Lordstown and retired in 2006. Besides being a proud American, John loved cooking, camping and the Cleveland browns. His favorite holiday was the 4th of July. He loved and cherished all animals especially his beloved dog "chump". In his younger years, he coached Austintown Youth Baseball, as well as being president of Gas House Bowling League for 10 years. He also worked several years at Federal Wholesale in Hubbard, Ohio. He leaves his true love and wife of 46 years, Kathleen Akers-Achey, who stood by his side through sickness and health and set an example of what true love is; a daughter, Tammy (Charles) Achey-Wilt; a son, Jonathan (Monique) Achey Jr.; the grandchildren he adored, Ryan, Katie and Mikey; as well as his father, Paul Achey; sisters, Janet Bartosh and Victoria Pazillo; a brother, Paul Achey; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Marion Carkido-Achey and his Beloved dog "chump". Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 15 from 5PM-8PM at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel. Prayers will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 16 at 9:15AM, prior to the 10AM Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Parish, 4545 New Road. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
