Joseph "Berky"Berkos 94 North Lima: Private services were held Friday at Lane Family Funeral Home, Anstrom Chapel, Boardman for Joseph Berkos, 94 who made his home at the Inn at Glenellen for the past four years, formerly of Boardman who died Tuesday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown. Mr. Berkos, known as "Berky" was born November 10, 1921 in Farrell, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Joseph and Helen Medenski Berkos. He served in the United States Army during World War II in Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge where he earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. Joseph had been a truck driver for Norwalk Truck Lines and Anchor Motor Freight, retiring in 1986 from Local Union #377. He was a member of the Argus Lodge #545 F & AM, the Tadmor Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite Valley of Youngstown, and the Youngstown Shrine Club. He was a charter member of Teamsters Local #261. His wife, the former Louise R. Martone, whom he married September 27, 1947, died December 2, 1986. He leaves two daughters, Jeannette (William) Steinhaus of Cincinnati, Ohio, Merceda (Robert) Saleman of Columbiana, Ohio; one sister, Nell Besco of Mercer, Pennsylvania; one brother, Henry (Janet) Mucroski of Sharon, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren, Cynthia (Craig) Meyer, Ronald (Amy) Sprinkle; James (Molly) Sprinkle all of Cincinnati and Kara (Richard) Burnett of Canfield. He also leaves eight great-grandchildren. Besides his parents and his wife, Joseph was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Minkoff and three brothers, Michael Berkos, Stephen Berkos and Anthony Berkos. The family would like to thank the staff at Glenellen for their wonderful care given to Joseph. There were no calling hours. Joseph was interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery next to his wife, Louise.
