A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Canfield Presbyterian Church for Joseph P. Stephens of Canfield who passed away on Saturday at Forum Northside Hospital. Joe was born July 31, 1923 in Warren, the son of Oscar and Alice (Hegg) Stephens. An Alumnus of South High School and Grove City College, Joe served four years as a Phamacist’s Mate in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. He was a member of the Canfield Presbyterian Church, Canfield American Legion Post 177, B.P.O.E. Lodge 55, The Youngstown Claims Association and Ohio Association of Independent Service Adjustment. Joe had also served as President of the Mahoning County Committee on Alcoholism Programs, Inc. Besides his wife, the former Phyllis Richter whom he married August 7, 1947, Joe leaves five children: Joe (Marilynn) Stephens of Canfield, Pam Stephens of Palantine, IL, Bobbie Jo (Jeff) Fleming of Heath, TX, Pegi Stephens of Dallas, TX, and Jill (Pat) Moore of Rockwall, TX. He also leaves a brother Jerry Stephens of Sebring, FL, and a sister Betsy Stephens of Canton, OH. Mr. Stephens also leaves eight grandchildren: Ashley, Brooke, and Grayson Stephens, Stephen, Hunter, and Hallie Fleming, and Patrick and McKelvey Moore. Joe was preceded in death by a sister Claire Cutler. Friends may call from 10 to 11 AM, one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be sent to Hospice of the Valley at 5190 Market St. Boardman, OH 44512 or to the Canfield Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund at 140 West Main St. Canfield, OH 44406.
