Josephine L Devine

Josephine L. "Josie" Devine, 87, of Warren returned home to her Maker on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 following complications from an extended illness at Cortland Health Care Center. She was born July 14, 1921 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Robert and Josephine Welch Knoske. She was a 1938 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and was employed at Mullins Manufacturing as an executive secretary until 1949. She was an active member of the Catholic faith at St. Mary's church in Warren where she held various positions with the Altar and Rosary Society and was voted Mother of the Year. She also worked as a Democratic precinct judge for the Board of Elections for over 30 years. She loved the arts and volunteered her time on the board of Directors for the Warren Civic Ballet Company, Ballet Western Reserve, and the Joyce Kilmer Players theater group. She loved to write articles for various organizations that she and her children were involved in. She also loved to play the piano and would play whenever asked. Her husband, Harold V. Devine, whom she married on November 6, 1948, preceded her in death February 18, 2000. She also was preceded in death by a son, Daniel, and three brothers, Robert, William, and Thomas Knoske. She will be deeply missed by her three children, Barbara J. (Michael) Altiere of Cortland; Lisa A. (Gene) Meardith of Bazetta; and James V. Devine of Warren who made his home with her; and her stepson, Michael Apicelli of San Franciso, CA. She will be missed immensely by her four grandchildren; Lorenzo and Kyle Devine, and Mikayla and Abigail Meardith, where she lives on in their hearts. She will be missed by her sisters-in-law, Virginia, Marge, and Jean Knoske and her many nieces and nephews, whose lives she touched in many ways. The Rev. Bernard Schmalzried will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Warren. Friends will be received Friday from 6 to 8 pm at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel. Interment will take place in All Souls Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St Mary's church restoration fund or to Alzheimer's Association 1815 W.
