Joyce A. Burson

Joyce A. Burson, 84 of Champion Township, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Community Skilled Health Centre in Warren following a battle with dementia and then Alzheimers Disease. She was born May 6, 1931 in Canton the daughter of the late James and Gladys Oyster Robarts. She was raised in Louisville, Ohio. Joyce was a 1949 graduate of Louisville High School and received her registered nursing degree from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Cleveland. She initially practiced as an R.N. at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC., retiring after many years at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. Joyce was a member of the Champion Church of the Nazarene, where she had co-chaired the Northeast Ohio District Nazarene church retreats in the past. She served as past president of the Trumbull county Gideons International Auxiliary and was an avid reader. She was a loving wife, Mom and Grandma and enjoyed spending time with her family. Joyce is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, V. George Burson, whom she married August 5, 1961; five children, Lorra L. (Rev. Don) Barnes of Cortland, Val G. (Jana) Burson of Uniontown, OH, Julia K. Genet of Akron, Claudia J. (Ted) Bowman of Champion and Leah K. (James) Dowell of Coral Springs, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and one sister, Brenda K. (Al) Leist of Wooster. Her first husband, Johnny D. Layne preceded her in death in November 1959. The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Champion Church of the Nazarene, 3924 High St. NW in Champion, with Pastor Donald Barnes and Kelly Adams officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren and 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday prior to the service at the church.
