Mrs. Julia Damiano Virgalitte, of Boardman, went home to be with the Lord at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 in St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boardman with her family by her side. Mrs. Virgalitte was born on June 12, 1922 in McIntyre, Pennsylvania the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Gentile) Damiano. After marrying her husband, Santos, Mrs. Virgalitte worked at Sheet & Tube Steel during WWII. After the war, Mrs. Virgalitte worked as a head cashier for the Kroger Company, where she worked from 1955 until her retirement in 1986. Mrs. Virgalitte was a long time member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Canfield, where she was a member of the Alter Guild and its Retired Senior Volunteer Program/Stitchers. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. Mrs. Virgalitte was married on August 15, 1942 to Santos Virgalitte and they were married for 49 years until his passing on September 21, 1989. Mrs. Virgalitte is survived by four children Stanley “Stan” (Sharon) Virgalitte of Boardman, Anthony “Tony” (Laurie) Virgalitte of Akron, Janice (Joe) Gonzalez with whom she made her home and Michael (Carol) Virgalitte of Youngstown; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a step sister Rose Wendt of Niles and a sister-in-law Josephine Virgalitte of Canfield. Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Virgalitte was preceded in death by two sisters Edith Matkovich and Betty Drummond; a brother Nick Damiano; step sisters Mary, Antoinette and Madeline and a step brother Mitchell. Calling hours for Mrs. Virgalitte will take place on Saturday, December 4, 2010 from 9:00 until 9:45 a.m. in St. Michael Catholic Church, 281 Glenview Drive, Canfield, Ohio, 44406. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Terrence J. Hazel officiating in St. Michael Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions take the form of donations in Julia’s name to St. Michael Church, 281 Glenview Drive, Canfield, Ohio, 44406.
