June C Newton

March 19, 1927 — December 28, 2013

JUNE COX NEWTON Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday December 31, 2013 at the Lane Funeral Home in Canfield. Friends are invited to arrive at 10 a.m. to meet with the famiy prior to the service. June was born on March 13, 1927 in Flint, MI. She was the daughter of Wanda Oakley and Clifford Cox. She graduated from Flint Northern High School and then attended General Motors Institute in Flint. Later she became an X-ray technician. On June 12, 1948 she married Gordon B. Newton. A few years later, they moved to St. Clair Shores, MI where their three children were born. In July 1965 they moved to Canfield. June was active in many organizations. She was instrumental, along with Librarian Wanda Weimer, in starting the Great Books Program in the Canfield schools. She was also the first Parade Marshall of the Canfield Fourth of July Parade. She received this honor as the result of her friend Ruth Murray. Ruth nominate June through an essay contest about the Best Neighbor in Canfield. Later, June discovered the joy of gardening and became a Master Gardener through the program at Mill Creek Park. While at Mil Creek She gave tours of the Rose Garden for Head Start students. Every tour ended with each child planting a seed to take home and nurture. June also received many hugs from her dear Head Start students. June is survived by her husband Gordon, her daughter, Nancy Newton of Canfield, her son Gordon Newton and his wife Ramune Kubiliunas of Willoughby Hills and her daughter Kim Newton and her husband Jim Goodwin of Terrace Park, OH. She is also survived by her grandson Geoffrey Newton and his wife Josephine Chuang and their son Grant of Falls Church, VA, her granddaughter Kristina Newton and her husband Robert Moore of El Paso, TX and her grandsons Jake Newton Goodwin and Gordon Newton Goodwin of Terrace Park. June was a great supporter of Beatitude House, 1515 Fifth Ave., Yo., OH 44505 and Mill Creek Park, 123 McKinley Ave., Yo., OH 44509. She also received wonderful care from the Antonine Sisters, 2675 N. Lipkey, North Jackson, OH 44451.The family requests that anyone who would like to make a material donation give to one of these organizations.
