June E. "GG" Shafer, age 89 of Bazetta Township, died at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Windsor House of Champion. She was born July 9, 1921 in Niles the daughter of the late Lester F. and Eva L. Vandergrifft Styers. She was a lifetime Trumbull county resident, moving with her husband to Bazetta in 1953. June was a 1939 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. She worked at Republic Steel Company during World War II and also worked at Ohio Leatherworks. She retired from National Can Corp., where she worked as a sorter-inspector for over 20 years. June was a longtime member of Bazetta Christian Church, where she had served as a deaconess and was a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Bazetta Senior Citizens, the Warren Women's Connection and was active with the Niles McKinley High School alumni group, who met for a monthly lunch. June was an avid reader and enjoyed, camping, word find puzzles, eating out with friends and loved traveling with her husband for many years. She had bowled on several area leagues in past years. Her husband, Ray Melvin Shafer, Sr., whom she married August 30, 1941 preceded in death in 1995. One son, Ray M. Shafer Jr. preceded her in death in 2006 and one brother, Lester "Bud" Styers Jr. also preceded in death. June is survived by one son, Kenneth L. (Patricia) Shafer of Bazetta; a daughter-in-law, Glenda Shafer of Bazetta; two granddaughters, Helan Shafer and Lisa (Tony) Sersich and two grandsons, Ken (Melissa) Shafer Jr. and Kevin (Amanda) Shafer; seven great grandchildren, Alaina and Emma Sersich, Kevin Ray, Samantha, Jennifer, Nathaniel and Kenneth A. Shafer and one sister, Ethel Moore of Cortland. The family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the Roberts-Clark Funeral Chapel in Warren and 1 hour prior to the 11 a.m. service Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Bazetta Christian Church. Pastor Paul Leone is officiating. Burial will be at Pineview Memorial Park in Warren. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund at Bazetta Christian Church.
